Food Is Fuel

TW Eating Disorders

According to ANAD, 28.8 million Americans will have an eating disorder in their lifetime. Food can sometimes be such a scary and touchy topic for so many, but we have to realize that food is fuel. We need energy and sustenance to live, and we must balance our intake and burning of energy. Especially with the rise of social media, it can be so easy as a teen to feel as if you are not perfect, too fat, or too skinny. But we need to normalize all body types because we are all beautiful, and we NEED food to survive. Without food and energy, our bodies cannot perform cellular respiration to fuel our everyday movements.

The Pandemic

When we were allowed to go outside without masks and social distancing, we as a society exercise much more. Our daily routines such as going to school or going to the store required walking, and we definitely burned a lot more energy by simply just walking. With the pandemic, we were forced into an online situation for almost an entire year. That can impact our bodies and our health as a whole, especially because it can be hard to find the motivation to workout. It is so much easier to intake calories than burn them. The pandemic can have a detrimental impact on many people, but we must make an effort to combat those changes. Make the effort to change your lifestyle yourself!

Social Media

With the rise of Instagram and TikTok, it can be easy to see other people’s “perfect” bodies, diets, and routines. The media has definitely glamorized what it means to be perfect, and it can be easy to let them impact yourself. However, you need to see past social media, and start accepting your body and your mind for what they are. It can be easy to be motivated by the media either in a positive or negative way.

Food

The bottom line is we all need food in order to live. The key part is finding a balance. Don’t feel guilty for eating “too much” or “too little”. Each day varies immensely, and you are allowed to eat intuitively. Live your life, and don’t let calories or restrictions define you. You are beautiful, you are worthy, and you are loved. You need to eat food :)
